Welcome to
the October edition of Action Mail!
This
monthly correspondence is intended to help you stay focused on what
you are trying to achieve and take better AIM toward your goals.
It's all about action. Your actions can either be purposeful
or wasteful; focused or fragmented; coordinated or disjointed.
It's up to you. I believe the single most important skill
for busy people is the ability to synchronize their thoughts, goals
and actions. That takes practice, and it takes a daily commitment.

To Snooze or not to Snooze?
Are you a fan of the snooze button? Many people absolutely love
to set their morning wake up call earlier than they need to rise,
just so they can experience the satisfaction of the snooze and buy
themselves a few more minutes of rest. I don't get it. Why not just
set the alarm for the time you actually want to wake up and then,
when the alarm sounds, go ahead and get out of bed? Are those extra
few minutes really that enjoyable or restful? Maybe they are and,
after all, it's a harmless routine. So snooze away.
But life has a snooze button, as well. And, the effects of pushing
this button are not harmless. In fact, they can be devastating.
The snooze button I am referring to are the four words, "one
of these days." We use them to relieve ourselves of responsibility
or the need to change.
One of these Days
The immediate effect of saying "one of these days" is
the same as the snooze button on your alarm clock. We gain a temporary
respite from our obligations.
What is the most important change you need to make? What are you
intending to do "one of these days?" Upon reading that
question, I am certain that the answer came to mind. We know what
we need to do. We think about what we need to do. We intend to do
it... one of these days.
But, the harsh reality is that "one of these days" does not
exist. Think about it. There is no such thing. It is merely
a convenient illusion, an escape mechanism to postpone the inevitable.
When it comes to taking action, there is only today.
Remove the phrase from your vocabulary and replace it with one of
three actions.
1. Do it today. When you have that moment of clarity and come face
to face with your true ambitions, seize the moment and take action
right then. When you honestly glimpse a change you must make in
order to grow, instead of putting it off, validate yourself and
make the change right now. Transformation can happen in an honest
instant.
2. Schedule it for a specific day in the future. Instead of saying
"I'll do that one of these days," pick one! Get out the
calendar and commit to your date with destiny.
3. Take the first step. Commit to just one small aspect of your
larger goal. Perhaps this involves a commitment to a person who
can guide you. Or maybe it means doing just one small thing that
moves you in the right direction.
By taking action you will be rewarded instantly with a rush of validation
for your efforts. And, you will be rewarded in the long run by being
true to yourself. Life is too short to hit the snooze button on
your dreams. It's time to wake up and take action!
All the best of success,
